This item is a hand-painted Russian lacquer box by Russian artist Lebedeva. The papier mache box is painted in tempera paints in multi-layered techniques. The box is then lacquered seven times and polished between each layer to give a smooth and durable finish.

This adorable Jack Russell Terrier dog sniffing flowers is very charming, and the shape of the box with feet is wonderful. 

Ms. Lebedeva's favorite subjects are dogs and horses, and she has painted both extensively. She is a graduate of the prestigious Repin Academy of Art in St. Petersburg, and she has been creating works in miniature for 15 years. She loves for her art work to bring joy to people.

The box measures almost two inches tall, 2 1/8 inches wide, and 2 1/8 inches deep. The hand-painted scrollwork on the sides is lovely, and the box is signed.  It ships with biographical information about the artist.
