	Russian Lacquer Box Carriage Driving Four-in Hand Horse This item is a unique Russian lacquer box hand-painted in tempera by a Russian artist friend of mine.  It is painted with a gorgeous coaching scene of a four-in-hand. The horses are painted with exquisite miniature detail. The box is handcrafted from abalone shell mounted on a papier mache base with beautiful triangular feet.   The shimmering colors of the abalone shell complement the colors in the painting so as to add mystery to the scene, as if the rays of sun are shining through the trees, and the water is glistening from below the bridge!  The box catches the light from across the room, displaying many gorgeous shades of color in the shell. After being painted in multi-layered techniques, the box is lacquered seven times to preserve and protect the painting.  The gold scrollwork on the sides is a beautiful accent to the artwork. Admirers of this artist's work always comment on his incredible attention to detail. He is one of my favorite Russian artists, and I have worked with him directly for five years.
