This item is a new, hand-painted wooden egg on wooden stand. It is painted with a lovely foxhunting scene. The little fox hides happily behind the tree while horse and hounds set off on the hunt. After being painted in a multilayering technique, the egg is lacquered three times to protect the painting and the wood.
The egg is painted and lacquered by a Russian artist friend of mine. I have worked with him directly for five years; his trademarks are attention to small details, wonderful use of color, and a love for animal, water and wildlife scenes.
The artist's technique of painting eggs is unique in that he uses a transparent base for his paints, thereby allowing the grain of the wood to come through the painting. This adds a richness and interest to his work, as the grains subtly show through to complement the scene.
The egg ships with a biographical card telling about the artist's background. The egg measures 3 1/2 inches tall. The stand is three inches tall.
