Fedoskino Russian Lacquer Box 'Moscow Streets' Puchkov

Fedoskino Russian Lacquer Box 'Moscow Streets' Puchkov

SKU:

Fedoskino Russian Lacquer Box 'Moscow Streets' Puchkov

This item is a new, exquisite, Russian lacquer box by famous Fedoskino artist Aleksei Puchkov. The box is a genuine Fedoskino papier mache box made in the centuries' old Russian tradition and of the highest, museum-grade quality.

The scene is painted with a stunning combination of mother-of-pearl and translucent paints, which creates a gorgeous effect in the clouds and buildings. The skyscraper on the background of the church is nearly completely painted using mother-of-pearl. The church and its cupolas shimmer in the light. This box, entitled 'Moscow Streets,' was painted in January of this year by Aleksei Puchkov, a famous Fedoskino artist.

The materials include oil paints, gold leaf, and translucent paints. As the box is turned in the light, shimmering gold peeks through the windows of each building and highlights the people on the street.

The mother-of-pearl reflects white, pink and blue colors in the light. It is much more beautiful than what can be shown in the photographs.

Mr. Puchkov's original artwork is executed in oil paints in multi-layer techniques, with a layer of lacquer between each layer of painting. Once completed, the box is lacquered again 10 times and polished and dried in an oven after each layer. The process takes several weeks to complete.

The box was completed in January 2007. It is 4 1/2 inches deep, 3 1/2 inches wide, and 7/8 inch tall. It is simply an outstanding work of art!

About the artist: Aleksei Petrovich Puchkov is an art director and leading master artist of the Fedoskino Factory of Miniature Art. He was born in 1963 into a family of artists. Aleksei finished the Fedoskino School of Miniature Art in 1982, having studied under the masters A.V. Shagin and S. V. Monashov.

Puchkov works in the genre of cityscapes and architectural landscape. His father, P. N. Puchkov, was an 'Artist of the People' (the highest Soviet honor for accomplished artists) and had a strong influence on his son’s creative work.

Puchkov is considered by his colleagues to be the best painter of architecture in miniature in Russia today. His work may be found in the collections of Russian museums and also in many private collections around the world. His three series “The Architectural Ensemble of the Holy Trinity-St. Sergius Monastery”, “Scenes of St. Petersburg,” and “Scenes of Moscow” have had a major influence on the creative advancement of the Fedoskino Lacquer Miniature. His works are true collectors' items.
